HSU Yi Ting|Artist Statement
Born in Taipei, Taiwan in 1992. My work focuses on the vulnerability of safety, exploring the multi-dimensional relationship between space and the body through the lens of geography. I view space as a metaphor, examining the interactions between the center and periphery and the construction of power boundaries through site-specific performance and painting.
Since 2015, I have developed the “Floating Body” series, which explores liminal spaces and public interventions. In 2017, I began the “Bodyscape” series, mapping sensory geographies and tracing the intersections between the body and environment in collage-like liquid spaces. My practice integrates reflections on the field, political contexts, everyday minutiae, remnants, and the construction of shan shui(山水), testing subjectivity, relational structures, and the humor of defamiliarization.
Over the past three years, I have been creating and moving between Taiwan and Europe. Through writing and bodily interventions, I question spatial structures, resistances, and the impact of capitalism on urban life. My works span documentation, installation, video, and performance. Recent projects include Hawaiian Pizza (Prague, 2024), Mud Metamorphoses II (Hamburg, 2024), and Under Skirt (Taipei, 2024).
